Pianist Of Amazigh Origin Shines at the 2024 Paris Olympics Ceremony

The Paris 2024 Olympics opening ceremony was a night to remember, featuring a stunning performance by French pianist and composer Sofiane Pamart. Of Moroccan Amazigh origin, Pamart teamed up with French singer Juliette Armanet to deliver a rendition of John Lennon’s iconic “Imagine,” setting a tone of unity and peace for the global event.

Biography

Born and raised in the north of France, Pamart’s journey to this global stage showcases his talent. His mother enrolled him at the Lille Conservatoire when he was just seven years old. After 16 years of rigorous training, he graduated with a gold medal, marking the beginning of an illustrious career. Pamart initially gained recognition by founding the Rhapsodie group and later became a sought-after pianist in the French hip-hop scene, collaborating with numerous artists including Koba LaD, Vald, and Maes.

In 2019, Pamart achieved significant success with two gold singles, “Matin” and “Journal Perso II,” before releasing his solo album, Planet, which brilliantly fused rap and classical music. This was followed by Planet Gold in 2020. His versatility and skill have made him a favorite collaborator for a variety of artists, from hip-hop to classical, and even acoustic projects with singers like Marina Kaye.

In addition to his work in hip-hop and classical music, Pamart’s sparkling piano playing has been featured on projects like Out by Kimberose, JVLIVS II by SCH, Jeu De Couleurs by Frenetik, and Ciela by Dioscures.

Array of other stellar performers

The ceremony also featured an array of other stellar performances. French-Malian singer Aya Nakamura paid tribute to Charles Aznavour by performing “La Bohème” and “For Me Formidable.” Hip-hop legend Snoop Dogg and actress Salma Hayek had the honor of being the final torchbearers, carrying the iconic Olympic flame. Philippe Katerine and Cerrone performed “Supernature” with Katerine on vocals and Cerrone on drums. French rapper Rim’K, known for his work with bands 113 and Mafia K-1 Fry, also took the stage.

In an unexpected duet, mezzo-soprano Marina Viotti and the metal band Gojira delivered a powerful performance. The highlight of the evening was a much-anticipated collaboration between Celine Dion and Lady Gaga, who performed Edith Piaf’s “La Vie En Rose” and “Hymne à l’amour.” This marked Dion’s first stage event since her diagnosis with Stiff Person Syndrome.
