UN chief urges end to political stalemate in Libya

The UN Secretary-General, Guterres, has called on leaders in Africa to put an end to the political deadlock in Libya. During his visit to Africa, Guterres urged leaders to take swift action and work towards a resolution to the conflict in Libya.

“What is urgently needed is the political will to break the protracted political stalemate and achieve progress on multiple fronts,” UN Secretary-General António Guterres

The United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, stated on Friday at the African Union’s high-level meeting in Addis Ababa that resolving the political stalemate in Libya is crucial to making progress in tackling various crises in the country. Guterres emphasized the need for political will to overcome the protracted political impasse, make progress on multiple fronts, and advance gains in security, national reconciliation, human rights, and hold elections. The UN remains committed to supporting Libyan-owned and Libyan-led solutions, he added.
