Morocco and Algeria to meet in U17 quarter finals

Morocco and Algeria are set to face each other in the quarterfinal of the TotalEnergies U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Constantine on Wednesday evening in what is expected to be a highly competitive match between two North African football giants.

Moroccan coach Said Chiba has made it clear that the team is not thinking about revenge against Algeria, despite their loss to them on penalties during the final of the U17 Arab Cup last year. He emphasized that the team is only focused on putting up a good performance and securing a ticket to the World Cup.

The team finished top of Group B with two wins against Nigeria (1-0) and South Africa (2-0), and although they lost their last match to Zambia (2-1).

Algeria’s results at the U17 Africa Cup of Nations in the first round included a 1-1 draw against Congo, a heavy 3-0 loss against Senegal and 2-0 win against Somalia. In the past, hey have had some notable performances, including winning the 2019 U17 Africa Cup of Nations in Tanzania.

Meanwhile, Chiba believes that the expected full attendance at the Mohamed Hamlaoui Stadium in Constantine will not affect his team negatively, but rather work in their favour as it will place the pressure of expectation on the Algerian team.
