Barcelona Pursuing Sofyan Amrabat

Head coach Xavi has identified the acquisition of a low-cost defensive midfielder as a top priority for Barcelona in the upcoming transfer window. The club is reportedly confident of securing the services of Sofyan Amrabat from Fiorentina for a reasonable fee.

Amrabat was linked with a move to Camp Nou during the January transfer window, but the deal fell through as Fiorentina was unwilling to include a mandatory purchase option. Xavi believes that signing Amrabat will enable Frenkie de Jong to elevate his game to new heights, with Manchester United’s interest in the Dutchman not a concern.

Amrabat’s contract with Fiorentina is set to expire in 2024, and the player’s agent has confirmed that the club is willing to sell him. Despite Manchester United’s reported interest, Barcelona is thought to be the front-runner to secure Amrabat’s signature.

The Moroccan international has been a key player for Fiorentina this season, featuring in 43 games and contributing one assist, and he also impressed for his country during the 2022 World Cup.
