The Next Gladiator Sites Constructed In Morocco

Work has started on the set of Gladiator 2 in Morocco, with the construction of a large arena that will be a central feature of the movie. The wooden structure being built into the dunes bears a striking resemblance to the amphitheater from the first film directed by Ridley Scott.

The construction and filming will be taking place in Ouarzazate. The region is known as the Hollywood of Morocco, and is a location of many blockbuster movies and productions such as Gladiator I, Games of thrones, Mommy.

The sequel has already attracted a star-studded cast, including Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, and Barry Keoghan in undisclosed roles. While Paramount has set a release date of November 22, 2024, it is unclear when filming will begin.

David Scarpa is writing the script, with Ridley Scott returning to direct and produce the film alongside Michael Pruss, Doug Wick, and Lucy Fisher.

The long-awaited sequel sees Paul Mescal portraying Lucius, the son of Lucilla (Connie Nielsen) and nephew of Commodus (Joaquin Phoenix) from the original movie.
